Q: What is Career Development?
A: Career Development is dedicated to providing a variety of programs, workshops, seminars and activities that will make your career planning more exciting and rewarding. Career Development empowers and challenges students to grow professionally, academically, and intellectually.

In addition, the Career Development office provides assistance to undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni who seek help in formulating and implementing career plans. Various programs and workshops are offered each semester to assist students who are selecting a major or trying to relate educational experiences to employment opportunities.

Q: Does Career Services “place” students in jobs?
A: Career Development is NOT a Placement Office. Career Development provides students with the necessary tools and resources to facilitate their own successful and rewarding job search. Career Services will also teach students the necessary skills required to be effective in finding a job in their career field of choice.

Q:  Is career services just for seniors?
A: Career Development encourages students to begin the career planning process as early as freshmen year. There are many steps and phases involved in planning for your professional career so it is strongly recommended that you begin your career planning during your first year of college.

Q: Career DevelopmentIs career services just for Business Majors?
A: Career Services offers services and programs for All academic majors; not just Business majors. For a complete listing of programs and special events please refer to the online calendar.

Q: What can students do to maximize their academic and career experiences at St. Thomas Aquinas College?
A:  There are many things students can do to maximize their experiences at STAC: Student’s Role:

  • Keep options options open while exploring the academic world.
  • Attend all of your classes and get the most out of your STAC 101 class.
  • Get involved in student activities or organizations of interest to develop leadership skills.
  • Establish relationships with academic advisors, the Career Services Office, and faculty members.
  • Use the undergraduate catalog to review majors and minors and determine which ones are of interest.
  • Research majors and careers on the internet, including links provided on the career services website and the career resource library (RSAC: Upper Level: Office #21).
  • Meet with academic advisors to identify courses that meet your needs based upon interests and academic goals.
  • Clarify career interests and aspirations through self-assessment.
    • SDS – The self-directed search; a computerized career guidance system.
    • Personalized career/personal counseling.
    • Workshops & programs on career planning.
    • Student/alumni mentor network.
