Dr. Maria Ann Roglieri is Professor of Global Literatures, Cultures, and Languages. She holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Romance Languages and Literatures from Harvard University and a B.A. in Italian literature from Columbia University. She also studied Italian literature and Italian opera at Sapienza University of Rome. She teaches a wide range of courses in literatures, cultures, writing, and languages in the School of Arts & Social Sciences at the College.
Dr. Roglieri has led several student trips to Italy in recent years, as part of her Italian culture course. She is the co-founder and leader of the STAC Alumni Travel Club, through which she brings alums of all ages back to campus for learning events, and takes them abroad for exciting European trips. She has raised money through the club and through her relationship with the Coccia Foundation for scholarships for STAC student study and travel abroad, and for purchasing books to enhance the Italian collection in our library. Dr. Roglieri is a recipient of awards such as the STAC Board of Trustees Award of Excellence, the Coccia Foundation Award for Excellence, and the Harvard Teaching Award.
In addition to her work here at the College, Maria has written a book on Dante and Music, as well as chapters for other books on the topic, and she has published articles in national and international academic journals, written chapters for books, and been invited to give keynote lectures in Canada and Italy on Dante. She is also active in the gluten-free community, lecturing and counseling, and has written 5 books on living gluten-free. Finally, Maria is also a violinist, and has performed in STAC’s faculty-student concerts and taught violin to some of our students.
Her favorite part of working at STAC is that she has been able to teach hundreds of students and to inspire in them, and in the alumni, a lifelong love of learning.
