Throughout her time at St. Thomas Aquinas College, Shanice Madourie ’28 embraces opportunities to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and participates in a wide range of campus events that broaden her perspective and enrich her personal growth.
As a Early Childhood Education major with an English Concentration, one of many highlights of her college journey has been her involvement in the STAR Program. She credits the program with helping her discover more about herself and unlocking new possibilities for her future. As a student speaker at a recent Board of Trustees meeting, Shanice shared the many achievements she gained through the program — an experience she calls transformative. Despite the early mornings and academic challenges, she found value in every moment and often helped peers along the way. She encourages future students to consider the STAR Program as a powerful foundation for college success.
One class that left a lasting impression was “Issues in Education,” taught by Professor Deborah Rockwell. Shanice excelled in the course and appreciated how it deepened her understanding of student learning and classroom dynamics. She credits Professor Rockwell’s dedication and one-on-one support as a driving force, noting how impactful it is to have a professor so deeply invested in student success.
Shanice encourages incoming students to always advocate for themselves. She believes that speaking up, asking for help, and getting involved are key to making the most of the college experience. Inspired by the guidance of mentors like Mrs. Mary Vota and Ms. Rayven Johnson, she reminds fellow students that showing up — whether to class, events, or leadership opportunities — can open doors they never expected.
