Katie Healy graduated in May 2023 with her degree in Psychology and Pre-Occupational Therapy and minors in Education and Therapeutic Recreation. During her college journey, she discovered her passions that would shape her future as a Recreational Therapist and business owner.
Katie makes a difference in the lives of local seniors as a Recreational Therapist at The Promenade at Blue Hill, where she plans and leads activities that support residents’ physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and spiritual wellness. From chair volleyball and morning exercise to bingo and group events, her goal is to help seniors stay active, connected, and feeling joyful.
Inspired by her job and experiences as a student at STAC, Katie recently launched her own company in February 2026 called Elite Certified Recreation LLC, which provides companionship and activity plans for seniors throughout Rockland County. Elite Certified Recreation LLC offers in-home arts and crafts, meditation, exercise, online travel experiences, and community outings such as breakfasts, coffee runs, and bowling trips. Katie notes: “Seniors deserve all of the care and fun they can have at this point in their lives. I want this company to be all about them.”
Katie recalls what led her to starting her own company, and notes that she will build something she is proud of through Elite Certified Recreation LLC: “After discovering Therapeutic Recreation in college, I always had a feeling I would want to launch a company that focuses on senior wellness, as seniors give so much to the younger generation. I really wanted to give back.”
Katie’s advice to future Spartans is to “trust the process” and know that your original plans may change. While she loved studying Psychology and Pre-Occupational Therapy, her career grew primarily from her minor in Therapeutic Recreation: “Try not to worry too much about finding “the perfect” major. Trust the process, and really try to enjoy and learn in every class that STAC offers.”
Through her work as a Recreational Therapist, Katie truly embodies the Spartan spirit and College’s Mission, bringing joy to seniors and making a profound difference in the world.
