Doc Schelin began his career at St. Thomas Aquinas College in 1977 as Professor of History and Political Science. Later, he served as Director of Student Personnel Services and Dean of Student Affairs. Doc was a beloved member of the St. Thomas Aquinas College community. He was always a visible and vibrant presence at the College, especially when supporting the College’s sports teams. He encouraged strong academic grounding, teaching vital lessons in American History and Politics. Many of his students went on to serve as representatives, elected officials, teachers, lawyers, and community activists. After retirement, he continued to teach summer courses, and in election years, he conducted his U.S. Presidents and Election Analysis lecture which was well-attended by students, faculty, and staff.
