Professor Porter received her B.S. in Biology from Pace University and M.S. in Biological Science from Fordham University. During her graduate studies, her research focused on understanding the effects of urbanization on the gut microbiome as a way of monitoring wildlife health. Specifically, she investigated the diversity of microorganisms within the digestive system of white-tailed deer populations along an urban gradient. Professor Porter is very interested in exploring the connections between human, wildlife, and ecosystem health through both molecular and ecological techniques. In the past, she has worked extensively with many domesticated and wildlife animal species including birds of prey.
