– Fresh Off Its Sixth ECC Men’s Outdoor Championship, Spartan Track & Field Enters a New Era –

St. Thomas Aquinas College celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Track & Field facility yesterday, marking another major milestone in the continued expansion of the Spartan Athletic Complex and the College’s ongoing investment in the student experience, athletic excellence, and campus growth.

The new Track & Field facility represents the next phase of development for the Spartan Athletic Complex, which first opened in Fall 2024 and has continued to expand the College’s athletic and recreational offerings. The project reflects St. Thomas Aquinas College’s continued focus on enhancing campus life while supporting its broader vision for growth and innovation as a College of the Future.

Over the past several years, the College has expanded its campus footprint by 30% through strategic acquisitions, partnerships, and new development — including the SKAE Astronomy Center, which opened this academic year — positioning the Institution for long-term growth and expanded opportunities for students.

“This project reflects our continued investment in our students and in the future of St. Thomas Aquinas College,” said St. Thomas Aquinas College President Ken Daly. “As we continue advancing our vision for a College of the Future, the expansion of the Spartan Athletic Complex represents more than new facilities — it reflects our commitment to educating and nurturing the whole student while creating a vibrant campus experience where students can thrive academically, athletically, and as leaders. The continued growth of our campus reflects a long-term commitment to opportunity, innovation, and preparing students to succeed in an ever-changing world.”

Under the leadership of Director of Athletics Margaret Alaimo and Track & Field Coach Ray Kondracki ’81, the Men’s Track & Field team recently captured the program’s sixth East Coast Conference (ECC) Outdoor Championship title — and first since 2022 — by defeating three-time defending champion Roberts Wesleyan University by a score of 193-192. The Women’s Track & Field squad also competed in the conference championship event. Once completed this summer, the Track & Field facility will further elevate the student-athlete experience while providing the College with a premier space for training, campus events, and community engagement opportunities. The College’s student-athletes continue to thrive in the classroom and have scored 87% in the NCAA Academic Success Rate vs. the 77% Division II average.

The College also recognized the enduring partnership and support of the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, whose long standing relationship has helped make the continued stewardship and expansion of the campus possible.

“We are deeply grateful to the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill for their unwavering support and shared commitment to the mission of the College,” Daly added. “Their partnership has helped shape generations of students and continues to make transformative projects like this possible.”

The College would also like to thank Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny; Marty Lyons, Mike Quick, and Thomas Tiernan of LandTek; St. Thomas Aquinas College Facilities Director Joe Donini; and the PJ Callahan Foundation Inc. for their partnership and support throughout the planning and development of the project.
