Through involvement on campus and internship opportunities provided through St. Thomas Aquinas’ Marketing program, sophomore St Christopher Thomas found his passion for social media management. In the classroom, St Christopher has benefitted from being taught by professors with years of experience in the field of marketing. One professor who has made a big impact on him is Dr. Deirdre Engels, as she has taught him about the many different paths that can be taken and helped him find internship opportunities.
Originally from Jamaica, St Christopher moved to the Bronx with his family when he was eight years old. Inspired by Usain Bolt, he ran track and also played soccer. Upon stepping onto campus, he instantly felt the tight-knit community, stating “I felt comfortable and at home, the people actually cared about me and I mattered.” St Christopher immediately got involved on campus, joining the Investment Club as well as Business Club, which he now serves as Secretary for. He is also a Student Ambassador, and is able to extend the same welcoming energy he received to prospective students. During his second semester at the College, he was nominated as Student Representative for the Student Development Committee. As Student Representative, he voices the insights of his peers to administration.
As Secretary of the Business Club, St Christopher’s responsibilities include managing social media pages, creating flyers, and taking notes during meetings. He also interns for the College’s Campus Communications team and works on social media projects: “I’m using my skills of editing, trying new things, and also working with others,” he says of the internship. He has also taken advantage of the opportunities off-campus to gain skills and experience by interning at OtherWorldTTV as Social Media Manager, increasing engagement across platforms as well as editing and posting original video content. In his community, St Christopher serves as an usher at Riverside Church in Harlem.
When St Christopher isn’t building his future in social media management or fostering community on campus, he enjoys staying active through sports and running, watching TV and movies, playing video games, and hanging out with his two younger siblings. Along with Usain Bolt, he looks up to his mother and social media personality Nadeshot. After graduating, St Christopher hopes to continue his career in social media as head marketer of a sports or gaming company.
