St. Thomas Aquinas College continues to expand its in-demand career-focused academic offerings with the launch of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) graduate and advanced certificate programs. The College will begin enrolling students in the program for the upcoming Fall 2023 semester.
The School of Education at the College will offer the TESOL program to meet the demand for qualified teachers for English Language Learners.
”We are thrilled to offer the new TESOL programs designed to address the high demand for qualified teachers in this field, particularly in New York State,” said Dr. Nydia Prishker, Assistant Professor of Childhood Education and TESOL at St. Thomas Aquinas. “We prepare our candidates to recognize the strengths that students who are learning English bring into the classroom and to use their knowledge as the foundation to continue their linguistic and academic development.”
The College offers two TESOL options: a 30-credit Master’s in Science of Education (MSEd) and an 18-credit Post-Master’s certificate.
Both programs will prepare candidates with essential knowledge and effective pedagogical strategies to meet the diverse needs of English Language Learners. The curriculum assists teachers in creating lesson plans around cultural/diversity competencies so that teachers can help English Language Learners thrive.
Designed with the working professional in mind, the program offers evening courses. Delivered by expert faculty, the program also features diverse fieldwork opportunities.
The new TESOL offerings join the College’s robust slate of graduate and advanced certificate programs in Literacy, Special Education, and Autism.
