St. Thomas Aquinas College continues to expand its in-demand STEM academic offerings with the offering of a new Bachelor of Science in Data Science.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the projected percent change in employment for data scientists in the next decade is expected to grow +36%, much faster than average for all occupations.
“Taught by experienced faculty, the program is purposefully designed to combine deep theoretical knowledge with practical, real-world experience,” said Dr. Bianca Wentzell, Dean of the School of STEM at St. Thomas Aquinas College. “In today’s data-driven world, graduates of our program will be well-positioned to pursue a wide-range of opportunities across numerous disciplines.”
Data Science is an interdisciplinary field that uses techniques primarily from the worlds of mathematics and computer science to extract usable knowledge from large quantities of data. The program will provide students with a strong foundation in the core pillars of data science: mathematics, computer science, and analytical data modeling.
St. Thomas Aquinas’ program provides a unique hands-on approach to the data science degree, with expanded courses including multi-course Machine Learning and robust Cloud Computing offerings.
Students will also spend two semesters on their capstone practicum so they can perform a real-world, data-intensive research project, from data gathering to presentation of results.
