St. Thomas Aquinas College is proud to announce its partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Trees for Tribs Program. On Wednesday, October 9th, volunteers will gather to plant 290 trees and shrubs along the Sparkill Creek tributary, which runs behind the College’s Fitzpatrick Village. This initiative is designed to restore and enhance the local ecosystem by stabilizing streambanks, improving water quality, and creating a healthier habitat for wildlife.
Volunteers from the St. Thomas Aquinas College community, including students from Dr. Bianca Wentzell’s Ecology class, the Sparkill Creek Watershed Alliance, and local residents, will collaborate in this important environmental effort.
“This initiative exemplifies the collaborative spirit between our college, local organizations, and the wider community, as we take proactive steps to protect and enhance our environment,” said Dr. Bianca Wentzell, Dean of the School of STEM at St. Thomas Aquinas College. “The Trees for Tribs Program not only enriches our students’ understanding of ecological restoration but also leaves a lasting impact on our local ecosystem.”
This event is open to all members of the St. Thomas Aquinas College community and local residents who wish to participate in an afternoon dedicated to conservation and environmental action.
