For your financial aid to be processed, please start with the Financial Aid Checklist (see below). Once the FAFSA is completed, you will receive a financial aid award notice detailing your eligible aid. Financial Aid is funding intended to help you fill the gap between your ability to pay (your family’s EFC) and the college’s Cost of Attendance. On your award notice you will find two types of Financial Aid, gift aid which does not need to be repaid and self-help options which includes loans and work study. FINANCIAL AID CHECKLIST 2023-24
As a reminder, follow your instructions on Processing your Notice of Award above.
BEFORE YOU FILE – PREPARE:
☐ Establish an FSA ID for the student as well as one for one parent. An FSA ID is a username and password that must be used to log in to Department of Education websites and will be used to electronically sign the FAFSA. Create your FSA ID here.
READY TO FILE:
☐ File the FAFSA on or after October 1 at www.fafsa.gov.
☐ We strongly suggest using the Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) to directly import your financial information into the application.
☐ St. Thomas Aquinas College school code is 002832.
☐ Have the following items for BOTH the student and filing parents handy when you sit down to file the FAFSA:
- 2021 IRS federal tax return, All W-2 forms, Social Security numbers, Driver’s license, Balances of checking/savings accounts, balances of non-retirement investments (funds not in an IRA, 403B, 401K, or annuity) such as: money markets, mutual funds, CD’s, stocks, child support, 529 college savings accounts, tax deferred pensions.

VERIFICATION:
☐ Verification is a process by which a college’s Financial Aid Office may request additional financial or tax information from a family.
☐ Inceptia is the College’s Verification servicer. Promptly respond to all requests for additional information or documentation as any delay can prolong the financial aid process. Example: Families may be asked to submit an IRS Tax Tax Transcript or utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT).
FILE TAP APPLICATION:
☐ New York State Residents Only: If you are a New York State resident you may be eligible for grant money from NY State. File the TAP application on-line at www.HESC.ny.gov. The school code for St. Thomas Aquinas College is 0830. If you have any problems completing your TAP application on line, please call NYS at 1-888-697-4372.
