stem adjunct faculty academy
Are you a STEM professional looking to expand your horizons and share your expertise in academia? The STEM Adjunct Faculty Academy is designed for professionals in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math, who are interested in teaching college courses on a part-time basis. We welcome you to bring your experience, share current industry practices and innovative perspectives to enhance the educational journey of our students. Our program will equip you with the tools and support needed to succeed in the college classroom.
Program overview
Three 90-minute, in-person sessions designed to develop your teaching skills will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas College from 6:30 – 8:00 PM, on Tuesday, June 11, 18 and 25, 2024.
Session Descriptions
Session 1: Introduction to Teaching and to St. Thomas Aquinas College – June 11, 2024
This session will provide an overview of the College, our students, and define the role of an adjunct professor, including the challenges and highlights.
Session 2: Teaching Methods and Strategies – June 18, 2024
This session will provide participants with effective teaching methods tailored to STEM disciplines, including lesson planning, classroom management, student engagement and assessment strategies.
Session 3: Teaching Practicum – June 25, 2024
Take what you have learned in the first two sessions and practice in a classroom setting. You will get to present a lesson, observe other participants and gain valuable feedback.
Application information
Interested candidates should apply for this selective program by May 20th and will be chosen based on educational credentials, work experience and the College’s current academic needs. Preferred qualifications include a minimum of a Master’s Degree in a relevant field. There is no cost for participation in the program, and participation does not guarantee employment.
